Toros y Toreros by Pablo Picasso
The "Toros y Toreros" sketches were made by Picasso with brush and ink on paper, at the castle of Vauvenargues, near Aix-en-Provence, where he and his partner Jacqueline Roque had moved in 1958. All numbered and signed.
The bullfighting theme contains fourteen drawings that Picasso made in one day. Thirteen of them are in the ink wash technique, while one work (number thirteen) is done in pastel, India ink and wash.
The drawings depict various moments and protagonists of bullfighting, from the banderilleros trying to copy the bull with their banderillas (decorated barbed darts), to the picadores attacking the bull with a long spear to weaken it, and the matador, the master bullfighter, who participates in the final death of the bull.
They were originally shown at the Galerie Louise Leiris, Paris, in the late 1960s, along with other Spanish-inspired subjects.
Recreating the expressiveness of the quick sketch of geniuses like Picasso and its plastic expression is the goal of this project. The volume-lateral development of the depiction allows its perception from different points of view. /so that it can be seen and perceived from different points of view/.
The choice to express the "free" black line on the sheet is black metal - welded (layered) with electric and removed with flex (angle grinder) without the possibility of precise control.
The subject of the current project is the sketch "Toros y Toreros II".
